Description
A Moment of Truth is a meditation on trust, mistakes, and perseverance. I finished writing it in May 2021, as the world was just beginning to return from the devastating pandemic that hit in 2020. That year was extremely tumultuous from nearly every perspective. Public health, gun violence, the climate crisis, political polarization, and social justice could all be at the forefront at any moment of any day. All of this reporting was important to me and I did my best to stay informed. But my mind and soul couldn’t always manage the strife. At a time where information was bombarding the world, I sought to escape for just a day, an afternoon, an hour, a minute. A Moment of Truth.
Writing this piece gave me many moments to escape that grief stricken world and focus on what was in front of me. I would find myself sitting and reminiscing about loved ones, fond memories, and playing music with other people. Most times my thoughts would go back to my Mom, to whom the piece is dedicated. I’d think about my childhood, holidays, parties, funerals, weddings, and family reunions. Anything that brought us together. I hope that whoever experiences this piece, whether performer or listener, is able to meditate and think about all the things they love for just a moment. A Moment of Truth.
